Gospel
Jesus said to his disciples:“The Kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field,
which a person finds and hides again,
and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
Again, the Kingdom of heaven is like a merchant
searching for fine pearls.
When he finds a pearl of great price,
he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.”

As many moms have, in my family I have the power of the purse. I am responsible for the budget, and for how our resources are spent on a daily bases...It is up to me to make sure that everyone has proper clothes, food, and other supplies as necessary...I want to make sure that our money stretches as far as it can, especially because we are in the process of purchasing our first home. As a result I spend a lot of time looking for deals in the form of coupons and specials, and I try to buy used items as much as possible...I spend a lot of time on Craigslist and at thrift and consignment shops. These things in themselves are good...but as I read the scripture today, I felt convicted...I feel like I spend too much time looking for things to buy, even though I justify that I only buy what we need, and that I am trying to manage our resources wisely.
Jesus, help me see my time as a precious resource. Today, with the time I usually spend looking for deals, I will spend with you. My relationship with you is the most valuable thing that I have, and that I can give to my children, I love you. Amen
