February 4, 2011 Fig Tree

Jesus, thank you for the many gifts that you have given me, help me always be willing and ready to give to others as you see fit. Amen

The next day as they were leaving Bethany he was hungry.
Seeing from a distance a fig tree in leaf,
he went over to see if he could find anything on it.
When he reached it he found nothing but leaves;
it was not the time for figs.
And he said to it in reply, “May no one ever eat of your fruit again!”

For Today's complete readings go to USCCB

 Sometimes when I feel God tugging at my heart asking me to do something, I acknowledge it but say to myself and God, "soon, I"m not ready yet," or, "In a few years I'll be in a position to do that."  I need to be ready at all times to bear fruit for God, to be available to Him when he needs me.  I need to look at what those things are that are stopping me from serving God completely in the present moment.  Perhaps, with lent approaching I can give one of the major roadblocks to God as a Lenten sacrifice.  I hesitate as I write this, because I know how hard it will be to do just that. I have excuses and justifications layered so thickly, that I can not give with out pain.  I have to really look at my life for what it is in relation to serving God with everything that I have.

Jesus, I do not want to be like the fig tree in today's gospel.  I want to always be ready to bear fruit for your kingdom, and to always be able to feed those spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Help me to give my all to you, at all times. Amen
