February 4, 2011

Jesus, thank  you for providing for my family today, in you we have everything we need, we are so fortunate to be blessed with a roof over our heads, food to eat, and provisions for the day.  Amen

Do not neglect hospitality,
for through it some have unknowingly entertained angels.
Be mindful of prisoners as if sharing their imprisonment,
and of the ill-treated as of yourselves,
for you also are in the body.
Let marriage be honored among all
and the marriage bed be kept undefiled,
for God will judge the immoral and adulterers.
Let your life be free from love of money
but be content with what you have,
for he has said, I will never forsake you or abandon you.
Thus we may say with confidence:
The Lord is my helper,
and I will not be afraid.
What can anyone do to me?
Heb 13:1-8

As a full time mom, especially of children under the age of three, I spend a lot of time at home.  This unfortunately gives me a lot of time to look around and see all the things that I don't have, or wish I had.  I'm looking at the same four walls every day, 365 days of the year.  I see every stain on the carpet, every misshapen sofa pillow, and every little thing that could be improved, not to mention the fact that my house looks more like a preschool facility than a home for grownups:)

I feel like I need different things in my house.  Often I let these insecurities prevent me from opening my doors to visitors.  My insecurities about what I don't have, prevent me from doing what God asks of me.  I do have food, I have places to sit, and love to share I should open my doors to others more often.

My friend was over the other day talking about a mainstream show she had watched on t.v. that depicted Full time moms as discontent, and directionless.  This was yet another attack of our way of life.  Why don't we see in popular media more examples of happily married woman with young children that they love, who feel fulfilled.  We were both horrified by the show, though we knew how that could happen to a mom.  We agreed that having your eyes and heart fixed on Jesus, and making sure that your purpose for each day was to move your child towards self discipline, selflessness, and the love of God, then you will not slip into being that kind of mom.

Jesus, help me to serve you in every way, allow my love for you, for my husband, and for my children be an example, so that the institution of marriage can be honored for all that it is.  Today I will be content with all that you have given me, and I will extend myself to others outside my family. I love you.  Amen
