“Why do you conclude that it is because you have no bread?
Do you not yet understand or comprehend?
Are your hearts hardened?
Do you have eyes and not see, ears and not hear?
And do you not remember,
when I broke the five loaves for the five thousand,
how many wicker baskets full of fragments you picked up?”
They answered him, “Twelve.”
“When I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand,
how many full baskets of fragments did you pick up?”
They answered him, “Seven.”
He said to them, “Do you still not understand?”

I'm reminded today that God is asking me to see that my needs are greater than my physical needs. He is not my savior just because he provides for my physical needs, but because, in him my soul is at rest. I just need to turn only to him when I feel lonely, tired, weak, or disheartened. Jesus is frustrated today because he was speaking to the disciples about matters of the heart and mind, and they thought he was talking about food. He couldn't believe that they were worried about food after he had more than proven that he would provide bread if they needed it.
Often my husband and I sit at the dinner table planning how we will provide for our growing family. We do this more often than we discuss how we can serve God together as a family. We do this more than we talk about how God worked in our hearts that day to help us grow. God has provided exactly what we need every step of our journey together, there is no reason we should be worried now as long as we are doing our part to be good stewards of what God has given and is giving us. God has provided for us so that we can serve him more completely focusing our hearts, minds, souls, and bodies on loving him.
Jesus, thank you for everything you have given me, I have never been without the things I need. I will serve you more today, because you have made me free to do just that. I feel especially blessed today to be a full time Mom. Jesus I pray today for all moms that must go to work when their children are young, that you lighten their load, so they don't have to feel so divided, with a foot in the world, and a foot at home. Amen
